The 2019 session of the Missouri General Assembly is well under way, and I have been working for days to finalize MOFC’s legislative goals for the year, along with the budget we will need to be effective.
But I have to level with you.
With recent mass shootings at the Jewish synagogue in Pittsburgh and the nightclub in Thousand Oaks, CA, I am becoming convinced that our initial plan of focusing exclusively on ridding Missouri of deadly ‘Gun Free Zones’ may have to be scrapped.
So with the legislature back in session, I need your advice. That’s why I’ve prepared your official MOFC Membership Directive which you’ll see below.
I need to hear from you as soon as possible, so won’t you please fill it out, and submit it back to me IMMEDIATELY?
First, let me explain the situation we are in.
On the one hand, the 2018 elections were very successful in that US Senator Claire McCaskill was finally removed from office, thanks in no small measure to the devastating internet ad we blanketed Missouri with -– highlighting McCaskill’s 12-yr war against gun owners.
Not only that, but Rep. Jered Taylor, one of the most committed pro-gun lawmaker in the House, won his re-election, and former Rep. Eric Burlison was elected to the State Senate!
These were some of the districts where the Missouri Firearms Coalition unloaded with mail, email, and more to expose anti-gun candidates.
On the other hand, running these crucial programs came at a heavy cost.
Right now, a week into the 2019 session, money is far too tight for the fight that is coming at us. That’s why I am writing you today.
I have to make a very difficult decision about where to focus our resources in this upcoming session.
And since this has always been a member-driven organization, I would greatly covet your advice on how to proceed.
As I said above, our plans HAD been to focus all of our efforts and resources on finally passing our “Gun Free Zone” repeal bill for Missouri.
After all, as we’ve seen from bloodbath after bloodbath over the past two decades, so-called “gun free zones” do absolutely NOTHING to keep citizens safe from violence.
A look at recent headlines tells the story.
The Parkland, FL shooting from last February — where 17 people were killed — happened in a ‘Gun Free Zone.’
The Sutherland Springs, TX church massacre — from just over a year ago where 26 innocent people were killed — also took place in a ‘Gun Free Zone.’
I could go on and on, as the Las Vegas shooting from last year that left 58 killed and hundreds wounded, happened in a ‘Gun Free Zone;’ just like the Orlando, FL nightclub shooting from 2016 that left 49 more dead!
Rather than being effective at stopping crime, “Gun Free Zones” are bait for sickos.
They just ensure killers never have to worry about running into someone who is armed.
The gun-grabbers know all of that. But they don’t care.
And sadly, Missouri state law plays right into their hands.
Under current law, well over a dozen public and private buildings — like churches, polling places, schools, hospitals, daycares and many restaurants — have already been established as entities where a killer never has to worry about running into a legally armed citizen.
ALL local government meetings are “gun free zones” too — except that ban doesn’t apply to government officials . . . they can legally carry to defend themselves if they want.
Pretty convenient if you are a local or state lawmaker, but for the rest of us, well, we’re just out of luck!
Don’t our kids in day cares and schools across the state deserve better than for state law to leave our kids as waiting victims for the next madman?
In a day and age where ISIS-inspired terrorist attacks are becoming the norm, and with new Islamic refugees pouring in by the millions — isn’t it reasonable that someone attending a Sunday morning service at their local Christian church may want to be armed?
And with political tensions running so high over the past two years, isn’t it reasonable that someone might want to protect themselves when they go vote?
Studies prove that guns help deter crime. They make us safer. You know it, lawmakers in Jeff City know it, and violent criminals know it.
Before you do, take a moment to read about the bi-partisan gun control bill that is making the rounds here in Missouri.
We know that some version of ‘Red Flag Gun Seizure’ legislation will become a MAJOR FIGHT in Jeff City next session.
In fact, Senator Jill Schupp has already filed this bill – Senate Bill 42 — making sure it will receive consideration in the 2019 session.
If passed into law, ‘Red Flag Gun Seizure’ legislation would order government agents into your home to seize your guns even if you haven’t been arrested — much less convicted of anything!
Even worse, the way this bill is currently drafted, the hearing that determines whether or not you will be able to keep your firearms is ex-parte, meaning you would not even know about it!
All it takes is for someone to file a bogus complaint against you.
Maybe it’s your liberal neighbor who doesn’t like the pro-gun bumper sticker on your vehicle. Or maybe it’s your anti-gun college professor who simply hates gun owners.
Or maybe it’s a soon to be ex, looking to ruin you.
Of course, once your guns are seized, you’ll be spending weeks in court and thousands of dollars in attorney’s fees to try and get them back.
And don’t think for a moment that because we have a Republican majority in Jeff City that we can sit back and assume that ‘Red Flag Gun Seizure’ legislation is dead on arrival.
This legislation is wracking up Republican support all over the country, being sold as a ‘common sense solution’ to gun violence!
Republicans in Florida and Illinois have already RAMMED “Red Flag” Gun Confiscation Orders into law early last year.
And Republican lawmakers in Iowa, Ohio, Tennessee, Pennsylvania and many other states are trying to advance this bill RIGHT NOW.
Here in Missouri, it’s no secret that our House and Senate Republican majorities are filled with moderates who have not passed a single gun bill in over two years.
And there are many who would jump at the chance to advance this bill, especially since it would have bi-partisan support!
Bottom line: you and I have to take this threat extremely seriously!
I’m sure you can see why I’m so torn.
There just aren’t any easy options, as both stopping ‘Red Flags’ and finally ridding Missouri of deadly ‘Gun Free Zones’ deserve our full attention.
But I have to face facts.
And as it stands today, I just don’t have the ability to run a full-scale program to stop a committed effort to pass ‘Red Flag Gun Seizure’ legislation while also fighting to repeal ‘Gun Free Zones.’
That’s why I’m counting on you to please fill out and submit your Missouri Firearms Coalition Membership Directive and tell me where to focus.
Of course, when you do so, you’ll notice that I have included another option on your membership directive –- an option that we haven’t talked about yet because implementing it would require a major influx of funds.
Nevertheless, it’s the option that I am secretly hoping you will choose.
But please note that if you select this option, I need you to dig deep and make a sizeable investment in the Second Amendment battle, to help us put this plan into action.
I simply can’t afford to run these programs simultaneously without it.
In fact, without considerable help from gun owners like you, running even ONE of these programs at the scale they would need to be run without immediate assistance will be very tough.
Bloomberg-funded organizations have been working across Missouri in the ramp-up to the 2019 session, adding an army of volunteers to the group and raising a disturbing amount of money.
Now, having been successful in stopping our ‘Gun Free Zone’ repeal for the last two years, they are hoping to scare weak-kneed lawmakers in Jeff City to move the ‘Red Flag Gun Seizure’ bill as soon as possible.
Their goal is to move so fast that we don’t have time to mobilize gun owners in opposition.
That’s why my hope is that you will agree to a generous gift of $100 right away.
I know that’s a lot. I know I’m asking you to dig deep.
But stopping radical gun seizure legislation and removing deadly ‘Gun Free Zones’ are absolutely vital to regaining the momentum here in Missouri and telling Bloomberg that he’s not taking an inch of our freedoms WITHOUT A FIGHT!
We have to fight hard, right now, to ensure that our children and grandchildren can enjoy the same Second Amendment rights that you and I enjoy!
Not only that, but the stand we make here in Missouri will reverberate nationwide and help out fellow gun owners in other states — just like it did in 2016 when we passed Stand-Your-Ground and Constitutional Carry law!
Every gun control bill we stop, every pro-gun bill that we pass, feeds the momentum in other states — and these days we need to stand together!
So if $100 is just too much, won’t you please agree to $50 or at least $25?
And with the General Assembly convening in just under a week, I simply must hear from you at once.
Please don’t delay.
