“This is too close to call, pressure is mounting on both sides of the issue, it’s going to come down to the wire.”
That’s what one Capitol insider told me this morning about the vote next week to override Governor Nixon’s faulty veto of Constitutional Carry legislation (SB 656) after its incredible 114 – 36 passage through the House and its 24 – 8 passage through the Senate earlier this year.
This legislation represents one of the most expansive advancements in 2nd Amendment freedom in Missouri’s history — which is exactly why anti-gun groups all over the country are trying to stop it!
They know that gun rights operate on momentum, and they’ve publicly stated that if Missouri can pass this legislation, other states will be tempted to try to same thing.
That’s why they are heaping pressure on the legislature as you read this, hoping to derail the legislation that you and I have advanced so far in just the past nine months! Please help us fight back, more on that below.
Consider, first, what’s at stake if the legislature refuses to override this veto. As I mentioned above, this legislation represents a massive step forward in 2nd Amendment freedom here in Missouri as it includes:
*** Constitutional Carry legislation; which allows law abiding Missourians to carry concealed without needing to first beg government permission or add their name to a government database;
*** Stand-Your-Ground legislation; which removes the ‘duty-to-retreat’ that exists in the code currently, before you can defend yourself or loved ones from a violent criminal if attacked in a place other than your home, car, or business;
*** Expansion of the current Castle Doctrine law; to include any law abiding person in your home, meaning that if your friend is visiting your home, he too can defend himself in the event of a violent home invasion;
*** Specifically limits the amount that can be charged for concealed carry permits; to do away with some of the runaway fees we’re seeing in parts of Missouri;
*** Makes provisions for a lifetime concealed carry permit.
Do you see now why gun-grabbers from Michael Bloomberg to the editorial board of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and everywhere in between are demanding that the legislature support the veto that Governor Nixon handed this legislation?
That’s why it’s essential you make your voice heard now — in the final week before this crucial vote — so that your legislator knows what you expect of him.

But perhaps the biggest threat to the 2nd Amendment is plain old apathy. I understand it, it’s a constant battle to protect and enhance the 2nd Amendment. Sometimes it can be exhausting.
But our forefathers gave us these freedoms when they gave us this nation. Our grandfathers ensured that you and I had a 2nd Amendment right when we grew up. And our children and grandchildren are now counting on you and me to fight hard for their future gun rights!
So don’t grow weary of this fight, especially not when we’re so close.

Bloomberg and his pals are pulling out all the stops. They have stated that they need to stop the expansion of gun rights in Missouri or it’ll create a domino effect with other states starting to pass pro-gun legislation!
Previous generations of Missourians stood up for the 2nd Amendment, paving the way for us to have the freedoms that we currently enjoy. Now our children and grandchildren are looking for you and me to do the same for their future rights.
