Boom!
Thanks to your calls and emails, Constitutional Carry legislation (HB 1468) has been moved onto the Perfection Calendar – in other words, it’s now eligible for a debate and vote in the full House of Representatives!
Getting this vote is an absolute critical first step in finding out which legislators in Jefferson City support your gun rights and which ones are just talking a good game, knowing that this is an election year.
By obtaining a vote on Constitutional Carry, you and I will finally know who is truly on our side!
Thank you for all of your calls and emails getting us to this point — but now the real work begins.
As a reminder for those new to this email list, Constitutional Carry is a very straight forward concept: if you’re legally allowed to own a firearm, you’d be legally allowed to carry that firearm for any lawful purpose with no additional paperwork or permits required.
If you want a permit for reciprocity purposes or for any other reason, you’d still be free to do that, as Constitutional Carry doesn’t phase out the permit but rather makes it optional.
However, if you don’t want to pay fees, go through the bureaucratic paperwork process, and be added to a database just to exercise your constitutionally guaranteed right to keep and bear arms, you wouldn’t have to.
That’s the system that our neighbors in Kansas and Arkansas enjoy, not to mention gun owners in Alaska, Vermont, Maine, Wyoming, Arizona, West Virginia, and Idaho.
It’s time that Missouri join them. But we have major hurdles to climb if we’re going to do that.
You see, for the last few months, we’ve largely been operating under the radar here in Jefferson City.
And so while there was some minor opposition to this bill from die-hard anti-gunners in the Emerging Issues Committee and the House Select Committee on General Laws, there’s been little organized opposition.
I expect all that to change, now that we’re headed for a full House vote.
The timing on this vote is not certain, it’s eligible for a vote as early as today, but it likely won’t happen that fast.
The longer it takes to have the vote on HB 1468, the more time out-of-state anti-gun groups (like those bankrolled by NYC billionaire Michael Bloomberg) have to run a media blitz and mobilize their people to oppose this bill.
That’s why I need you to take a moment to do a few things in defense of your gun rights here in Missouri right away!
Your actions will likely determine the outcome of Constitutional Carry this session! Please stand with us by:
- Calling and emailing your Representative (find out who that is here) immediately. Insist that he vote in support of this legislation and that he resist ANY weakening amendments.
(Follow the link above to obtain the phone number and email address for your representative.)
- Calling and emailing Majority Leader Cierpiot at 573-751-0907 or [email protected] and urge him to take the next step and actually call HB 1468 up for a vote.
It’s debate eligible now that it’s on the Perfection Calendar – but he needs to take this final step.
- Getting your friends and family involved in this fight too by forwarding this email to them. We need as many pro-gun Missourians as possible calling and emailing their representatives!
- Considering a generous contribution to the Missouri Firearms Coalition.
We’re working around the clock to mobilize as many gun owners as possible this week to make sure that they are involved in this fight.
Your gift of $100, $50, $25 or even just $10 will help us do that!
You see, we won’t be able to match anti-gun forces, especially ones backed by Michael Bloomberg, dollar for dollar. But we don’t have to.
Grassroots pressure, from local gun owners in a legislator’s district, counts for far more than angry newspaper ads from a billionaire 1,000 miles away!
But we need to activate those grassroots gun owners – to make sure their voices are heard – using mail, email, Facebook, and more. Your donation will enable me to crank up the pressure on these programs! Please do what you can, today.
But whatever you do, please make your calls and send your emails right away – that’s most important.
For Freedom,
Dr. Curt Frazier
Chairman of the Board
P.S. Your calls and emails are working; Constitutional Carry legislation has been placed onto the Perfection Calendar, meaning that it’s now eligible for a debate and vote in the full House!
But now that we’ve made it this far, it’s attracting the attention of anti-gun organizations from as far away as New York City!
The longer this bill is debate eligible, but hasn’t actually been voted on, the more time anti-gun groups have to mobilize opposition to it.
Please get involved again, right away, and contact your State Representative (go here for their name, email address, and phone number) and urge him/her to vote in favor of this legislation, and to resist any weakening amendments.
Please also call and email Majority Leader Cierpiot at 573-751-0907 or [email protected] and urge him to take the next step and actually call HB 1468 up for a vote.
It’s debate eligible now that it’s on the Perfection Calendar – but he needs to take this final step.
