Eighteen Cosponsors on House Bill 258 and Counting!

It’s been a very busy week in Jeff City as we work to repeal deadly ‘Gun Free Zones!’

Our Political Director, Alexandra Salsman, spent Thursday morning testifying in the Senate Infrastructure and Public Safety Committee on legislation to repeal ‘Gun Free Zones’ on mass transit systems.

Our message, on behalf of our members, was simple: the spirit of this bill is great, but it doesn’t go nearly far enough!

At the same time, lawmakers are telling us how many of your emails are flooding their inboxes! Keep it up!

Thanks to these calls and emails, the following lawmakers have added their name to this bill as a cosponsor:

Representatives’ Baker, Spencer, Chipman, Christofanelli, Billington, Shawan, Dinkins, Pollock, Toalson-Reisch, Kolkmeyer, Deaton, McGirl, Hudson, Simmons, Porter, Bondon, and Muntzel.

Including our sponsor, Rep. Jered Taylor, this makes eighteen lawmakers backing House Bill 258!

Lawmakers in Jeff City need to hear from you — right away!

As you know, the Missouri Firearms Coalition is running a two-front operation this session as we work to stop ‘Red Flag Gun Seizure’ legislation and eliminate ‘Gun Free Zones.’

We will come back to the ‘Red Flag Gun Seizure’ issue soon, but for today, it’s essential that we crank up the heat on lawmakers in Jeff City on SB 121/HB 258.

This legislation is being sponsored in the Senate by Senator Eric Burlison and in the House by Representative Jered Taylor.

But we need to build momentum for this bill, and fast.

So please take a moment to send this PRE-WRITTEN EMAIL to your lawmakers, insisting that they cosponsor this vital legislation right away!

This legislation would eliminate the so-called ‘Gun Free Zones’ that are currently on the books here in Missouri.

These are areas where you and I are disarmed and helpless, and where madmen always go to launch their deadly attacks — knowing that they won’t face any armed opposition!

Here in Missouri, our Constitutional Carry and Stand-Your-Ground laws won’t do us any good if an attack happens in any of the following areas:

>>> Churches; where so many horrific attacks have taken place in just the last few years.

>>> Colleges and universities; there’s no reason why law abiding adults should not be able to defend themselves with more than pencils and smartphones.

>>> Voting precinct locations on election day; is there anything more unamerican than having to be disarmed while voting?

>>> Daycares; is there anything more illogical or dangerous to our children than telegraphing to madmen that there are no armed adults nearby to defend them?

I could go on and on, as there are so many more places that are off-limits to gun owners like you and me because of state law.

Hospitals, sports arenas, stadiums, the list goes on.

Senator Burlison and Representative Taylor’s bill would repeal the ‘Gun Free Zones’ in these areas, very possibly preventing a tragedy before it even happens!

But for that to happen, we need to build momentum — and that means cosponsors.

That’s why I hope you’ll send this PRE-WRITTEN EMAIL right away, insisting that your lawmakers do more than just talk about being ‘pro-gun.’

This bill has been languishing long enough, having been stuck in committee for several years in Jeff City.

With gun owners firing Claire McCaskill last fall, and electing a 2/3rds pro-gun majority in the House and Senate once again — it’s clear that we are the most potent voting block in the state.

We did our job; it’s time that lawmakers do theirs and pass this legislation.
