With the first two weeks of the 2017 session, as well as the inauguration of our new governor, in the books, the hard work of advancing legislation really begins.
I wanted to take a moment and outline what our legislation would accomplish this year, and why it’s so important that you stand with us.
As you know, passage of Constitutional Carry and Stand-Your-Ground law were major accomplishments last year.
The liberal media is still trying to come to grips with what gun owners did, despite the objections of former Governor Nixon and Michael Bloomberg.
I don’t know about you, but seeing radical anti-gun media in a frothing rage over gun owners defending their Second Amendment rights just makes me laugh!
That said, we have much more to do here in Missouri.
And it starts with removing the DOZENS of places where you and I are disarmed here in Missouri, under state law.
The truth is, Missourians are fired up as they learn more and more about just how many areas we still can’t carry a defensive firearm — even after passage of Constitutional Carry legislation.
Churches, schools, daycares, most sports arenas, hospitals, many restaurants — the list goes on and on.
All told, there are nearly 20 different areas where you and I would be considered criminals for carrying a concealed firearm in, whether or not we have permits!
But do you think that these “Gun Free Zone” signs would ever stop a madman with a gun?
Of course not. You know it. I know it. And the legislature knows it.
That’s why we’ve been working with Rep. Jered Taylor all week, finalizing the draft of his bill which would remove these blanket bans of self-defense.
Next week — once the bill is able to receive co-sponsors — we’ll be asking you to help us by contacting your legislators and urging them to support this legislation.
And we’ll need all hands on deck to make this happen.
Some in the Capitol are implying that after the bill that was passed last year, gun owners should just sit back and ‘cool their jets.’
Sorry, that’s just not going to happen as long as the Missouri Firearms Coalition exists!
The moment we stop pushing to advance the Second Amendment, the radical anti-gun lobby will launch a program to undo all that we’ve accomplished.
Gun rights runs on momentum — we’re either gaining ground or losing ground — there’s no in between.
Rep. Newman has already introduced a radical gun control bill here in Jeff City.
Reps. Swan and Lichtenegger are already talking, publicly, about the need to “fix” the bill we passed last year, which is never a good sign.
I could go on.
We simply can’t let up on the gas. We need to press ahead on repealing deadly “Gun Free Zones” full throttle!
That’s what Rep. Taylor’s bill would do, continue the Second Amendment fight where it’s most needed: removing areas where you and I are left defenseless.
Some have asked about the legislation that’s being introduced that would hold a business owner liable for any crimes of violence that take place on their property if they’re a “Gun Free Zone.”
I get it. If someone’s so silly as to think their sign will stop violent crime, it’s easy to want that person to pay the piper if something dreadful happens.
But our legislation won’t do that.
The best way for you and I to hold a business owner accountable is by choosing to spend our hard earned money elsewhere — and let them know why they’ve lost your business.
Meantime, it’s time that Missouri law stop creating so many areas where the criminals have the upper hand as they blatantly ignore “Gun Free Zone” signs.
Please get ready to start flooding the Capitol with calls and emails, urging your legislators to support Rep. Taylor’s bill.
Lastly, be sure you’ve signed your petition calling for an end to these deadly “Gun Free Zones!”
For Freedom,
Dr. Curt Frazier
Chairman of the Board
P.S. With a largely ceremonial week behind us here in Jefferson City, and a new Governor inaugurated, it’s time to get to work on repealing deadly “Gun Free Zones.”
We’re days away from unveiling this legislation, being filed by Rep. Jered Taylor, that would put an end to these policies that give criminals the upper hand.
Please do your part, by signing your petition today in support of this crucial legislation.
And also, please make sure your membership is renewed for 2017, as well!
