I know we’ve been firing off a lot of emails to you lately, but things are happening very quickly here in Jeff city.
I want to give you a brief update.
This past week, our bill to reinstate the Second Amendment Preservation Act (SB-23) passed out of the Senate Transportation Committee on a 5–2 party line vote.
This means the bill is now eligible for floor action anytime Senate leaders want to move it.
Honestly, having any bill out of Committee this early in the session is astounding — especially gun bills.
In addition, MOFC’s legislation to add civil penalties to existing Pre-Emption law will be heard in the transportation committee on Monday!
This legislation, SB-74, has been filed by Senator Brad Hudson and would fix the ongoing problems that we have in places like Kansas City and St. Louis, that defy state law and enact their own gun control ordinances.
For example, last November, Jackson County passed a local ordinance that makes it a crime for Missourians under age 21 to possess a handgun.
Even though their own county executive vetoed the measurement, the county overrode the veto and is now actively looking to attack local gun owners with this bogus ordinance!
Thankfully, Attorney General Andrew Bailey has already announced litigation against the county. What SB-74 would do, is allow individual gun owners to sue the county in civil court for damages!
I’ll be there testifying on behalf of MOFC members on Monday, and we will be sure to keep you informed.
In the meantime, I hope you’ll consider a generous donation to the Missouri Firearms Coalition as we are working around the clock for you in Jeff City.
I’ll be sure to update you after Committee on Monday.
For Missouri,
Aaron Dorr
